The Old Fisherman's Cottage
an escape by the sea
Achill Island
"Lashed by the ocean and carved by the wind Achill is one of Ireland's most spectacular and striking destinations".
Ireland's largest island, Achill has attracted people to its shores for generations.
Its rugged landscape features dramatic cliffs, soaring mountains, remote lakes and secluded beaches - including five with Blue Flag status. Offering a wide range of outdoor activities, from surfing, windsurfing and scuba diving to hillwalking, fishing, golf and many more, a visit to Achill can be as active, or as relaxed, as you choose.
The Atlantic Drive (Wild Atlantic Way) is truly not to be missed. A spectacular drive around the south of the island where the Atlantic Ocean crashes against the rocks.
There are some excellent places to eat on the island and lots of pubs to enjoy a tipple listening to some traditional Irish music. In Dugort we have two pubs, one at each end of the village as well as two highly recommended restaurants.
A visit to Achill Island is the perfect antedote to a busy urban life, the only traffic jams here are caused by the sheep and the most stressful part of the day is waiting for the Guinness to settle.
